Dark Sacred Night - Michael Connelly

This feels like the handing over of the torch.  From Detective  Harry Bosch, who after a lifetime in police he is now entering a forced retirement to Renee Ballard, who has been banished to the graveyard shift after complaining about harassment by her boss.  In this new book, they meet up to work a cold case of a young girl killed in strange circumstances years earlier.

Michael Connelly is one of those authors who shows up and delivers in his books with good pacing and quick and believable banter, and somehow manages to suck me into a story within a page or two.  A good way to end 2018. 4/5

The Late Show - Michael Connelly

Detective Renee Ballard prefers to work the night shifts in her LA department, away from all the others and giving her time to paddleboard during the day and finish off her jobs.  This is a new main character for the author, and I think he has done a great job of creating her, she came across real with enough flaws to develop several storylines, with of course a couple of traumatic back stories.  She seemed to be able to hold her own with the male detectives and is able to solve a major crime case.

I look forward to see where her next stories go. 4/5

The Drop - Michael Connelly (2011)

So Michael Connelly has bought his A game to his latest Detective Bosch drama.  I picked this one up at the library, and thought that I would bring it home and started it straight away, ignoring the persistant pile of books piled up by my bedisde.

Once I started it, I enjoyed the story and curling up with it every night.  Detective Bosch is now facing retirement, and is sent to work in the cold case dept.   After taking on an unusual unsolved rape and murder case,  he is pulled into another case, when a prominant councilmans son is found outside the Chateau Marmont.  Unsure if they are looking at a murder or a suicide, Bosch and his partner take over and find it is not as clear cut as first thought.

It was a good smart detective thriller, which was good, as I seem to have been a bit dispointed by many that I hae read recently.  For that I give it a 4/5.
