Critical - Matt Morgan

I like the honesty of this book, like many of the recent medical memoirs published it talks more about taking care of the patient, of doing what is best for them, rather than doing heroic measures at any cost.  Dr Matt Morgan is an Intensive Care specialist who melds the stories of his patients, with his own life and experiences and also  provides motivation for the reader to look at their own lifestyle choices and how they may affect their future health.

I like any book that provides conversations around end of life choices and how we should all discuss our options well in advance, sharing with our loved ones what we would want to happen.  When confronted with these choices in real life, it makes it so much easier when we know how our family would want to proceed.  4/5

Such choices are never easy, especially if you don't have family. Or perhaps that makes the choices easier - or just simpler...

I was in hospital in March, April for 5 weeks with Sepsis. I remember very little and was in isolation. One night about 2.30 or 3am my dr. woke me up and said I was likely to die shortly as the top number of my blood pressure was down to 52. I was quite lucid as she explained that if they resuscitated me I would be on dialysis and in the same condition that I was in for the rest of my life. I am nearly 77 and felt most comfortable saying I did not want to be resuscitated . She said it was always so helpful to know what a patient wanted. I think she was such a lovely caring dr. and felt very lucky to have her. As is obvious I rallied and while not on dialysis thankgoodness my life is not pleasant and is endured rather than enjoyed. My two daughter have come fo visit from Europe and were horrified at my answer. I am very glad they were unable to be contacted. I have no idea why I can leave comments here but not on any other utube sites. Must get my iPad sorted.
