Blue Moon - Lee Child

Oh man, deja vu again.  There's a bus, a country town, a bunch of bad guys, punching, shooting, running, car crashes, not many police, a chick, some ex military and more of the previous 23 books.  I kept wondering  when he got a fresh change of underpants and how bad he smelt with no deodorant after all of that running around.  I keep saying I won't read the next one, but I keep coming back I guess until it's all over.  2/5

The Midnight Line - Lee Child

Oh boyfriend - this is it, the final breakup. We had a good run you and I, but it's over I can't do it anymore. You dragged me in thinking it would be fine, but you just gave me the same old same old. You teased me with a lady ring, and dreams of West Point, but 100 pages later you were still at the diner or cheap hotel, or dusty road.

So goodbye my friend - we had a good run, and I know you will keep on hopping on buses and find yourself a new lady reader. Good luck - I will miss you! 1/5

Night School - Lee Child

We travel back in time with this one to meet Jack Reached in 1996.  I can't really explain much more about the plot because I couldn't really follow it myself.  It is a departure from his usual formula and for me, it seemed to be written as some sort of set up to follow into another story line. 3/5

Make Me - Lee Child

Oh hot boyfriend Reacher you sure are at a crossroads, just like the picture on the front of this latest adventure.  Again we find you in a rural town wandering round discovering trouble.  I am not going to be jealous that you found another lady friend, I know a man has needs.  I just am disturbed that if you have no luggage where do you carry your toothbrush and your lynx (oh and spare undies too)?

The first 3/4 of this book felt dragged out to me, and I found it hard to believe that you would get involved in someone elses business without an idea of what was going on.  It felt a bit forced to me.

So buddy - I hope while out shopping for a manbag we can find you on a more exciting adventure.  We are close to breaking up but I am prepared to give you another chance.  2/5

Personal - Lee Child

Boyfriend got a passport, new pants and a plane ticket to London - oh my!!!!  That is kind of where my excitement ended, as I have to admit to being a bit bored and ho hum about his overseas adventure.  What happened to excitement Mr Reacher, how did you end up in this boring hunting down of a sniper via London street gang that reads like a boring  spooks episode?  It didn't have any grit or humour for me, it just felt like a beginning and an end with a long long, dull middle.

But - I still love you Jack.  Just hoping it will work out, we've been together a long time. 2/5

Never Go Back - Lee Child

Ohhhh boyfriend, I am glad you took my previous advice and finally got off that country road.  It has seemed to take you years to get from there to here, and at least get to a city with more than a thousand people.  I am so glad that you went to a city, maybe grabbed a grande latte and got to have a shower or two.  I'm at least glad that the ladies you pick seem to have brains and understand your sarcastic wisecracks even if they seem pretty quick at dropping their pants, we understand your irresistible charms and are picturing a more Channing Tatum physique, rather than little Mr Risky Business.

Alas, my attention wasn't really grabbed by this latest adventure - I didn't find the clever in it and was a little bored.  There was a bit much driving around for me, even though I was glad you found a car or two it just seemed a little too convenient to find a hillbilly ATM burning at the time you needed cash.

So honey, take care, stay away from those country roads, quit the hitchiking, maybe use your pension money to buy a few more shirts, take a vacation, and head off somewhere new.  3/5

Awww Jack Reacher, I swore that if you ended up in another small town walking this way and that way, that we would have to break up for good.  I mean Boyfriend, we know that it would be a cheaper movie to make, but can't you just go to a city every now and again?  The only saving grace that you went to this small town in 1997, and you were still in uniform, sort of, and so I enjoyed that little distraction.  Your author kept mentioning in the last two books about the incidence in your past that ended up with your discharge, so it was nice to find out what you did.

Now back to the Tom Cruise issue - Big NO!!  He is all wrong, too old and too little.  I am thinking you would be more Sam Worthington, big and broody.  If they make a movie and do it wrong it will be all over again Jack Reacher, it's feeling like you're skating on thin ice.

So, back to the book.  It was an ok read - Lee Child is a good author, with great flow, punchy smart and intelligent dialogue and characters and I am sure I won't be able to think of a big train passing the same way again.  I am however, as you can tell still peeved that he seems to have spent the last four books wandering around small derelict towns walking up and down tarmac, and for that I can only offer you a 3/5.

OMG - enought with the roads again, up and down old Jack Reacher goes, and it is beginning to drive me bonkers. I really want to see him visit a city, go to the movies, catch a bus, but please oh please, could you just leave the country roads alone. It feels like the same old story all over again. But Jack Reacher hot ex army man, I still love you.

61 Hours - Lee Child

61 Hours - Lee Child (2010)

Jack Reacher is one of my favorite thriller/action characters. Described as 6 foot 5 inches with hands like chickens, he is one ex soldier that is ready for action. The last two books were a bit repetative and dry, where he seemed to walk the same stretches of highway over and over again.

This new book, it built in momentum slowly and with an overwelming sense of impending doom that by the time I got to the ending, I was a bit disapointed with the predictable gun battle, showdown. My sister-in-law told me not to read the last page, which I never do, but that provided another clue to the future of Jack Reacher.

3/5 and I'm hanging out for the next one.

After not particularly enjoying the last three or so books of Lee Child, I think in this his 13th Jack Reacher novel, he has managed to return to the excitement and tension of the earlier books. This time Jack is in New York, and after witnessing an incident on a train he goes in search of the people involved.

His last book had him traveling back and forth, and back and forth on the same road, to the same two towns so it was refreashing to have a different backdrop with a whole new threat. 3/5

Now over the past few years Lee Child has remained one of my fave authors. His stories of Reacher, a ex military MP who wanders around the US, finding himself outsmarting all kinds of nasty folk .

I struggled with this one, I felt like the main character, finding myself retracing the same steps over and over again. It seemed like a town that Reacher may have been in before and the stereotyped baddy that has been in many a book or movie lately. Sorry buddy, it seems you and your stories are getting tired and you both seem to have lost your mojo. Just a poorly 1/5 from me.
