Where Am I Now? - Mara Wilson

Mara Wilson is instantly recognizable on the cover as the role she played  in Mrs Doubtfire as Natalie,  the youngest sibling and as Matilda and many other roles.  Now at 29, and retired from acting, and she has written a biography about her life then and what she is up to now.  Although I am not the biggest fan of biographies written by 20 or 30 year olds, she has something fresh to write about. I am sure being an actor so young makes for many challenges, and with the death of her mother at a young age and struggling with anxiety and OCD I felt there was some wisdom to be shared.

I do think though that this is a generation growing up with the need to overshare everything, and wonder how they will feel when they are older with children of their own with every thought and photo published and available on google at the touch of a button.  3/5

The book wouldn't be my cup of tea, but I saw her do a guest stint on CBC TV's "The Goods" last week, or possibly the beginning of this week. I didn't recognize her name at all, but once they said "Mrs Doubtfire" I made the connection. Maybe in another 30 - 40 years she can write another autobiography -- it would be interesting to see the different perspective that age would bring.

I can understand an autobiography written by a 29 year old if it is about a time in her life now ended. But I agree that people share far too much of themselves. Most of it is unimportant to any but the person writing or talking. That's why I keep myself to myself.

I like Fuzzy Tales's idea of another book in thirty years. I read a memoir once that was based on diary entries made at the time, and was annotated with text by the same man in present times, twenty years later. His outlook on events, and on himself, were fascinating.
